Car Insurance Saturn (Car Insurance). what to do if my mechanic has ripped me off?what to do if my mechanic has ripped me off? I have a classic car and I was working out of state and I had a bit of pocket change about three years ago, So I had a mechanic remove the motor and then we took it to a machine shop to get the motor professionally rebuilt. After the motor was done the mechanic reinstalled the motor as planned but he said there was not enough oil pressure, so he got the engine shop to come and take a look at it in his shop running. They both agreed that the motor needed to be remove and re machined. Nether of them took responsibly for this. Not wanting to start anymore problems (they were about to be in a fist fight in his shop after the finger pointing of who was wrong) I told them to take the motor out and re do it. After many more months they got it done. I asked the mechanic to reinstall the motor and he told me he would and he gave me a delivery date that it would be done. After driving by the shop and calling the service manager he informed me the I can pay the remaining balance and tow my vehicle off the property. He said that they voted and they will not be installing the motor!!???? I was mad about this and totally confused. What do I do I have dropped more then 6400 in just the mechanic's shop not including the engine shop. please let me know what to do the car is a two door hard top 1968 delta custom with a 455 Oldsmobile rocket In California you can contact the Bureau of Automotive Repairs. Small claims court, will benefit you.You win it cost you nothing, make sure you ask for cost also. I would file a claim at the appropriate courthouse aka sue them. Make sure you have all the receipts and document every event in order by date to have solid proof of your argument. At this point I would cut your losses with these people and go elsewhere. This is not a hard motor to rebuild and it's obvious they are not competent. I would definitely take them to court and make a claim against the rebuilder, at least. Saturn . How to Eliminate Exhaust Fumes in a MustangAs a result of the air/fuel mixture igniting within the engine, the engine produces carbon monoxide. That carbon monoxide, generically referred to as "exhaust," is routed out of the engine and to the back of the vehicle via exhaust manifolds and pipes. Two gaskets within the exhaust system prevent the exhaust fumes from escaping the exhaust system before they reach the end of the exhaust pipe. If either of these gaskets fail, exhaust fumes will be present and the gaskets will need to be replaced. Doing so on a Mustang is fairly straightforward. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Wrench Exhaust manifold gasket Exhaust pipe gasket Flathead screwdriver Step by Step : 1 Ensure that the engine is cool for at least three hours, as the temperature of exhaust components can easily burn exposed skin. 2 Disconnect the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head. The exhaust manifold attaches to the side of the cylinder head with several large retaining bolts. If the engine has eight cylinders, there will be a total of eight retaining bolts. If the engine has six cylinders, the manifold will have six bolts. Remove these bolts with a wrench, then pull the manifold away from the cylinder head. 3 Remove the exhaust manifold gasket. Between the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head is a single gasket. Oftentimes, the gasket will stick to the cylinder head when the manifold is removed. Peel the gasket away from the cylinder head, then scrape any remaining gasket material off the cylinder head with the blade of a flat head screwdriver. 4 Disconnect the bottom of the exhaust manifold from the exhaust pipe. The exhaust manifold features two studs at the back of the manifold. These two studs slide through two holes at the tip of the exhaust pipe, and are held in place with two nuts. Remove the two nuts with a wrench, then pull the manifold away from the exhaust pipe to disconnect to two components. Remove the single exhaust gasket from the bottom of the exhaust manifold. 5 Slide a new exhaust gasket over the two studs on the back of the exhaust manifold, then insert the two studs through the two holes on the tip of the exhaust pipe. Install and tighten the two nuts onto the tips of the manifold's studs with a wrench. 6 Place a new exhaust manifold gasket onto the portion of the manifold that rests against the side of the cylinder head, then press the manifold and gasket against the cylinder head. 7 Slide each of the exhaust manifold's retaining bolts through the manifold and into the cylinder head, then tighten each of the bolts with a wrench to complete the repair.
Saturn . How to Remove Head BoltsCar head bolts hold the head assembly onto the engine block. When replacing the head gasket or doing any kind of internal engine work, you must remove the head bolts from the head assembly. Understanding and knowing exactly how to remove them can be the crucial step in saving you money for a repair. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Socket wrench set Breaker bar Step by Step : 1 Remove any obstruction from over the top of the head bolts, having already prepared the head assembly for removal. Make sure a wrench can get down to the bolts easily. 2 Select the correct-sized socket and attach it to the socket wrench. Place it on the head bolt on the rear, passenger's side of the engine block and turn it counterclockwise. If you need additional force, use the breaker bar to achieve a greater amount of leverage. 3 Loosen the bolt just enough to move it and then move to the most forward bolt on the driver's side of the engine block to do the same thing. Next, move to a rear passenger side bolt, followed by a front passenger side bolt. Loosen all of the bolts slightly in this alternating pattern. 4 Unscrew all of the head bolts completely once they are loosened in the alternating pattern. This helps ensure against a warped head or broken head gasket. Tips & Warnings Use the same alternating pattern to tighten down the head bolts when you go to reattach the head assembly. *Repairing a small area is relatively easy. But if your car has suffered fairly extensive body damage, such as major rusting or large holes, dents, creases, or tears in its metal or fiberglass skin, forget about trying to fix it yourself. Instead, rely on a professional body shop for appropriate surgery. (You wouldn't try to set a broken leg yourself, would you?) Even if you remove the dent or rust successfully, you still need to mask, sand, apply the filler, shape the filler to the contours of the car, sand some more, and then prime and paint the surface. Unless you have considerable skill in working with your hands and you really enjoy challenging and time-consuming jobs, you'll probably find that having a professional tackle the big stuff is well worth the money. That way, you can spend your time doing something that will be profitable enough to pay the restorer's charges, and you can both walk away happy. Your vehicle will look better, too. Amateur attempts usually give themselves away with uneven surfaces or uneven color, and you run the risk of having the filler or paint wear away prematurely from an improperly prepared surface. 1063

Some shops still mix colors by eye and formula, and others use CD-ROMs and scanners that match even faded colors perfectly. If you care about the environment, find a shop that filters, recycles, and disposes of waste materials in an ecologically sound manner, even if your state or province doesn't require it. If you need to locate a reliable body shop, consult the section in Chapter 23 on finding and evaluating a good service facility. Then use the following tips to pick the best one: Take a look around the shop to see whether they're removing or at least masking chrome, trim, rubber, locks, door jambs, and handles thoroughly to prevent paint from getting on them. Look along the sides of finished vehicles. The light reflected off the restored surfaces will reveal whether they are smooth and shiny. Does the color match the rest of the car exactly? Chapter 24: Getting Rid of Dings, Dents, and Other Hard Knocks /* O 1 Get at least three estimates. Each should include a list of all the parts that need to be replaced or rechromed (such as trim, lights, and bumpers). Straightening and rechroming has become very expensive, and this type of work must be done properly to keep the chrome from flaking off quickly. Ask the owner or manager the following questions: • Do you have the latest high-tech equipment? If your vehicle has been damaged extensively and is covered by insurance, go for the most sophisticated setup you can find. If damage is relatively minor and you're paying for it yourself, you may want to trade extremely high-end technology for a good job done with more traditional equipment at a lower price. Saturn . If chrome trim must be sent to a rechromer, you may save money by arranging to take it there and pick it up yourself. • What guarantees or warranties apply for parts and labor? Unless your insurance company guarantees the work it authorizes, make sure that you'll be covered if problems occur. • How do you prepare the surface of the vehicle before you paint? If metal body panels are to be replaced, will the new ones be galvanized to protect them from rust? If old paint is stripped away, will the bare metal be treated if the galvanized zinc layer has been stripped away? What kinds of primers do you use to ensure that new paint will adhere properly? • Saturn . You brought a new battery car starts then cuts off imediately?
